JUDGE BIO – JULIE KEENAN - AUSTRALIA

JULIEKENNENI started my life in the dog world in 1984 with my husband Mark when we purchased a Newfoundland from Ian & Lee Ford – Canizmere Vaughan who went on to become a multi BIS and Specialty BIS Winner.  We continued with the breed and gained success both locally and interstate.  We have also successfully bred and shown BIS Pyrenean Mountain Dogs, as well as owning and showing a Samoyed, Miniature Schnauzer and currently we are owned by a charming American Cocker Spaniel.

I have served on various positions for a number of breed and all breed clubs (Werribee Barwon KC, Eltham & District, Boxhill & Districk KC, Victorian Spitz Breeds Club KC).  I am a Life Member, past President and past Secretary of the Newfoundland Club of Victoria.

I commenced my judging career in 1995 as a trainee judge in Group 6 and successfully completed my last group in 207, elevating me to All Breeds status.  I am now active in the Dogs Vic Judges Training Scheme as the Group 6 (Utility) Lecture Master and Lexture Master for the aspiring judges.  I am also an assessor for the scheme.

I have judged in all states and teritories of Australia and numerous countries abraod including New |ealand, China, Indonesia and the Phillipines.  I have had the pleasure of judging Newfoundland Specialty Shows in Australia and New Zealand.  I have also judged Specialties for the Samoyed Club of Victoria Open Parade as a Gr 6 trainee judge and later to judge the Samoyed Club of Canberra Champ Show.

2023 SPECIALTY dedicated to DWAIN MCLEAN.

dmcleanNow retired, Dwain was a professional educator in New Brunswick for some 36 years, nine as a high school teacher of Mathematics and French, then twenty-seven years as an executive with the New Brunswick Teachers’ Association. He is married to Joan, also a teacher, and they have four grown daughters and six grandchildren.

Dwain was elected to the CKC Board in a by-election in the summer of 2004. Later that year he was elected as its Chair. When re-elected to the CKC Board for 2005 – 2008, he was also re-elected as its Chair. Once again, on re-election to the CKC Board for 2009 – 2011, Dwain was honoured with his re-election to his third term as its Chair.   He has served the Maritime Toy Dog Club as Vice President, NB Director and now Honourary Member and has been a source of guidance and a role model for many exhibitors, new and old, in the region and across the country.

Dwain’s love and commitment to the sport of dogs has kept him busy over the years with his own dogs, now including American Cockers (25 years), Yorkshire Terriers (20 years), and Labrador Retrievers (10 years), as well as with the sport itself. “I never tire of working with the dogs,” Dwain says. “They still interest and fascinate me every day! In spite of the disappointment of losing a puppy or missing a Winners ribbon, I still love the time spent with the dogs, and with talking to, and helping others get involved in the sport.”   The challenges today for the purebred dog fancy are many, but Dwain has no regrets with his own involvement, and loves to meet others with the same passion.   [dogs in canada]

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE – First, thank you to our Sponsor!  PetValu!!

  • These past years as President of Maritime Toy Dog Club has been momentous for me in many ways. The talented and dedicated people I have been privileged to work with have been phenomenal to say the least. To say “thank you” never seems enough for me, so I am asking you all to give a huge shout out to those that are passing their torches.

The work itself is a challenge to follow the ever-changing rules of CKC and our own Club, but also the needs of its members, and I meanLmacl ALL of them. Shows come and go and for the most part we seem to pull it together, But there is so much more behind the big day. Working with all breed shows to finding judges that fit the Toy Breeds isn’t an easy task. Being mindful of all that is ahead of this day, please take note of what is happening and how much work is behind the day. Thank you for the committee that stepped forward this past season to make this day a success. I am sure in the future you will have left huge paw prints to follow.

  • Next year’s Toy Show is in conjunction with the Moncton All Breed show in May. We are thankful to the Pictou County Dog Club and its members for making our event a success. I am thankful to our members that have come and made the day complete. The committee for its hard work and interesting choice of prizes this year. Always a good time to be had by all.
